Surveillance Vehicle: Computer Monitors + Ram Mounts

Frequently my surveillance case are two or three day stakeouts with multiple investigators. As my van is setup with plenty of battery power and cooling options, I am usually the investigator who remains stationary on top of the subject’s residence. This provides me with benefit of having a few extra seconds to put my stuff away prior to pursuing the subject. As such, I can conduct some office work while on surveillance.

Please Note: Whenever I do ANYTHING in my van other than stare at my subject’s door or vehicle, I setup my camera to permanently monitor the door or vehicle and I setup my motion detector on my computer. This will guarantee I will not miss my subject due to distractions. See my other post on motion detection here: http://www.oinvestigations.com/hello-world/.

However, it is not always easy to perform administrative tasks while on surveillance. In order to make my life easier, I have attempted to create a comfortable office within the confines of my surveillance vehicle, including having a three-monitor setup, a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse.

Below you will see two AOC monitors that are powered by USB power only. I also place my laptop on a ram mount and connect the USB ports to my laptop. This allows me to maintain a three-monitor setup. When I am working on my computer, I use the two monitors for office work and connect the remaining monitor to the motion detection camera. Above the two monitors you will also see a 7″ screen that you can purchase on Amazon for under $30. At times, when I need to use all three monitors for my work, I will connect the 7-inch screen to my camera to better monitor the subject.

In the picture below, you will see that I’ve installed a mount for the mouse pad, which I purchased on Amazon for $15 on the right arm of the seat.

This is how the setup looks “blacked out:”
