Reverse Camera

Years ago, I used to think that a reverse camera was simply a cool extra feature on one’s vehicle. Since then I have come to realize that it’s a necessity in any decent surveillance vehicle. The time it saves while parking is essential and can provide an investigator with more time to get his/her camera rolling or jump out for foot-pursuit.

There are many options for rear view cameras. I purchased the TaoTronics Car License Plate Frame (which includes the rear-view camera) on Amazon for $45 and the E-Prance 4.3″ Screen rearview mirror monitor on Amazon for $25.

Installation is extremely simple.

The license plate frame mounts easily. All you need to do is drill a hole behind the plate and route the wires cleanly behind the carpeting and plastic molding.

I chose to install the camera monitor in my rear-view mirror as it allows me to continue to see the road through my windshield while looking at the monitor. The mirror works as a normal mirror when your transmission is not in reverse. All you need to do is clip on the new mirror to your old mirror and route the wires to your rear taillight. Very easy to do. Splice the hot wire into your reverse light in your taillight and to your license plate hot wire.
