Surveillance vehicle curtains

Curtains in your surveillance vehicle are essential for surveillance. If you do not use curtains during surveillance, you WILL get burned sooner or later. Curtains also keep the vehicle much cooler.

Most likely, you have seen my other post in this blog that described how I tinted my windows and why. The upper portions of my rear windows are 5% limo tint and the lower portion is 40% tint for night time surveillance. As a result, I had to make separate curtains for each portion of the windows.

As you can see in the photo below, I first glued Velcro strips to the windows. I glued tabs of Velcro in various locations and a long Velcro strip to separate the dark tint from the light tint. DO NOT USE Superglue, it will melt from the heat. You must use black RTV Silicone which is rated to about 500 degrees. Do NOT USE Velcro that already has adhesive as that adhesive will also melt!

Below are pictures of the lighter tint covered by curtains. This is my usual daytime setup. Please note that I sewed the Velcro onto the curtains.

I also found it necessary to place a large curtain between the rear area of the van and the front seats. It is necessary because if I am sitting in the back of the vehicle with the large curtain up, anyone who looks into the vehicle will only be able to see the front, empty seats. To install the large curtain, I used a 2 inch Velcro strip and roofing nails to hold the strip in place.

And finally, below is a picture of how the interior of the vehicle appears with the curtains and with camera’s the flash off.
